These guidelines are too long. I can't stand to look at them for more than a moment. But a comment I read on this site, sffportal.net, shows how well chosen the content is for viewers of my background. I'll enter this comment, but it will be the travesty of time that will prevent my making many contacts here regardless of the fine context you use.

11-3-2012

Dear editor at the Mir,
This is a most unique message from the promised holy land!

First off, I sure hope this email finds you doing swell!
Please allow me to introduce myself:

My name is Noah Cohen, “The Philosopher”; I am a writer, 35 years old, (still) living in Jerusalem, Israel.

I am the first writer ever in the history of the state of Israel that has taught himself English for many years, and about to publish all his novels straight abroad, as opposed to all the others that have been translated, after having read thousands of books (endless classics), and for years, translated word by word, one expression after another, obsessively, preparing myself (something that I did not realize at the time) to be writing for the international arena.
I have got 5 novels, the third of which, “from hell till eternity”, that conveys a free, infernal, philosophical and rather crazy translation to the holy story of Job from the bible (!), is now being offered to be bought in 25,000 retailers, worldwide. Decidedly, all my novels depict humanity and creation, using extremely original tools, each story paints a different colorful aspect about the human condition, what it is to be alive.
The mortal coil and all...

Please do me the great honor by Googling:

NOAH COHEN, THE PHILOSOPHER, “FROM HELL TILL ETERNITY”, offered also through my publisher “RAIDER PUBLISHING INTERNATIONAL”, located in Manhattan, NY, NY.

Is there any way you may assist this so-so special gem? A review? An article? Perhaps you may direct me to the right person in your Newspaper or magazine, or even the local industry? My ultimate goal, is to unleash my divine candle’s glow, finally, unto the entire globes’ awareness, slicing through endless artificial flashlights, in the process...

May I ask my publisher to send you a copy immediately for your consideration, wow, what an honor would it be for me, to be reviewed in your paper, for sure!!!
I cannot thank you enough, God bless you!

Noah Cohen “The Philosopher” , writer of:

2002 STORMING TIMES
2004 IN HUMAN FORM
2006 “FROM HELL TILL ETERNITY”
2010 YOU’RE IN FOR A CRYPT!
2011 GUN (just in case...)
2012- Will probably start working on renewing the story of biblical Noah, in “I, Noah”.

how does one succeed in writing and selling a fictitious, supernatural-themed novel in English? does finding the perfect publishing company a matter of import? is there a market for works like this in Malaysia? do they sell successfully?

I'm glad your interest got kindled, Shaun! As for Rushdie, he's routinely classified as a magic realist despite his flamboyance.

Thanks for writing about this! I knew nothing about her work before, but will definitely put her on my wish list.

The only point of contention I have here is that I would not consider Rushdie to be a magical realist (most of the time). A great deal of his work is flat-out fantasy, even when he tries to write otherwise. I tend to think of magical realism as heavily subdued fantasy. For me, Rushdie is everything but subdued.

But that's nothing to do with Fakinou, who sounds very interesting indeed!

I very much enjoyed this issue. I skipped the next one because I had already read one of the stories, and the others weren't "world sf" (my current focus). But Expanded Horizons is one of the sites I read regularly for world sf.

"God in the Sky" was first published in IASFM, at the end of last year or beginning of this year. It was an interesting story: post- modern with its ambiguity and lacknof resolution. The "otherness" of a muslim family background and homosexuality of the narrator seemed incidental to the story.

Hello there. Thank you for the post! It has been such a joy to read, and I would have loved to refer to it while doing my course in Edinburgh :)

It's always encouraging to hear Malaysian fantasy and scifi writing is going places. And mentioned in a previous post, Malaysia has such a rich folklore of beliefs, superstitions and things that go bump in the night, that I knew I had to write my stories based on it.

I'm definitely going to check each of your lovely links, as there's a lot more reading and research I need to do of local works. Keep up the good work, and much thanks again!
